Starting today, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) C8i instances are available in the Europe (Stockholm) region. These instances are powered by custom Intel Xeon 6 processors, available only on AWS, delivering the highest performance and fastest memory bandwidth among comparable Intel processors in the cloud. These C8i instances offer up to 15% better price-performance, and 2.5x more memory bandwidth compared to previous generation Intel-based instances. They deliver up to 20% higher performance than C7i instances, with even higher gains for specific workloads. The C8i are up to 60% fas

Why this matters
Why now

AWS is continuously expanding its specialized instance availability to meet growing demand for high-performance computing in various regions.

Why it’s important

This expansion provides European customers with enhanced compute capabilities for demanding workloads, potentially lowering costs and improving regional data sovereignty options.

What changes

Customers in Europe (Stockholm) can now access C8i instances, offering significant price-performance and memory bandwidth improvements for compute-intensive applications.

Winners
  • · AWS customers in Europe
  • · Intel (as AWS custom Xeon 6 is Intel-based)
  • · Cloud infrastructure dependent businesses
Losers
  • · Competitors with less performant offerings in the region
Second-order effects
Direct

Increased adoption of C8i instances in the Europe (Stockholm) region due to performance and cost benefits.

Second

Potential for new or more complex compute-intensive applications to be developed or migrated to AWS in the region, leveraging the improved performance.

Third

Strengthening of AWS's market position in the European cloud computing landscape, potentially influencing regional tech infrastructure decisions.
