Starting today, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) X8i instances are available in the Asia Pacific (Seoul), Asia Pacific (Malaysia) and Asia Pacific (Tokyo) regions. These instances are powered by custom Intel Xeon 6 processors available only on AWS. X8i instances are SAP-certified and deliver the highest performance and fastest memory bandwidth among comparable Intel processors in the cloud. They deliver up to 43% higher performance, 1.5x more memory capacity (up to 6TB), and 3.3x more memory bandwidth compared to previous generation X2i instances. X8i instances are designed for memory

Why this matters
Why now

AWS continues to expand its global infrastructure and instance offerings to meet evolving enterprise computing demands across key regions.

Why it’s important

The availability of high-performance, memory-optimized instances like the X8i in additional regions signifies ongoing competition in cloud infrastructure and the specific needs of workloads like SAP.

What changes

Key Asian markets now have access to AWS's latest generation of memory-intensive compute instances, potentially shifting workload deployments or optimizing existing ones.

Winners
  • · AWS
  • · Intel
  • · Enterprises running SAP and memory-intensive workloads
Losers
  • · Competitor cloud providers in these regions for memory-optimized instances
Second-order effects
Direct

Increased performance and capacity for memory-intensive applications in specific Asian regions.

Second

Potential for new enterprise customers to migrate or expand their operations onto AWS due to enhanced regional capabilities.

Third

Further entrenchment of AWS in Asian enterprise markets, fostering deeper integration of its broader service ecosystem.
